A Day in the Life - Maintenance & Repairs

Back in the day, if we needed any minor handyman work done around the house, we used to call my mother-in-law – yep – mother- in-law you read that right - to come around and hang a picture, change a washer or fix a door handle. Iain would occasionally pick up a screwdriver which was my cue to make the phone call!

Fast forward to today, and said mother-in-law now lives way too far away to be of any use. Adding to the problem, is that in a building of some age, there are always a few maintenance niggles. Compound that to several buildings of an undetermined vintage and we realised pretty quickly that we were going to need some help.

The luck continues for the newbies of the motel industry! We have had the good fortune of finding our handyman extraordinaire - and that brings a new chapter of Iain & Ian and 4 trips a day to the hardware store!

Apparently, maintenance requires a whole new mysterious world of screws, sealants, tools and beautification needs lots more than TLC. So now the roofs don’t leak, the taps don’t drip, we have pictures and notice boards on the walls, the bushes are trimmed and the place is really looking quite spic and span, thanks to the application of much paint and the frequent use of the pressure hose!

The two latest big and high impact projects completed by Fordie are the renovation of the camp kitchen and the building of a deck outside room 24 – both of which have turned out beautifully and have been commented on by all our guests.

Having been denied my moments of Chicken Little doom and gloom by Iain, along came Ian to compound the positivity – seriously, they gang up on me!
